San San Thick Lash Waterproof Mascara Review

Hooray for my first product review! :)

I bought it this afternoon while I was at Park Square 1, Makati. I was actually planning to buy a Maybelline mascara (personally, I think Maybelline's really good at it). Prior to this, I have purchased a mascara from The Face Shop, and unluckily it didn't suit me. Yes, mascara is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing; it's a common misconception.

Okay, just a quick mascara 101:
If you'll notice, aside from there are Waterproof and Non-waterproof type of mascara, there are also a Volumising and a Lengthening type of mascara. Volumising mascara have waxes and polymers, great to work with thin and short lashes. I remember watching one of Michelle Phan's previous video, she said that those who have thin and sparse lashes like her should use a dry formula mascara. I was confused because it wouldn't be normally specified in a mascara tube whether it's a dry formula or not. Then I came across her Mascara 101 video. Dry formula mascara usually contains waxes and polymers to intensify the thickness of the lashes. I also learned that there's a water formula mascara, a good choice if you're one of the lucky girls blessed with full and long lashes and using a mascara is just to glam it up. I suggest that you watch the video and get educated before you reach for that wand!

Okay , back to my San San mascara review.

San San Thick Lash Waterproof Mascara
Php115/Net wt. 10g
Available in Black and Brown
**also available in Long Lash variant**
    Pros:
    1. Affordable and generous net weight.
    2. It really thickens and curls my lashes!
    3. Has Vitamins A, C and E "commonly known as anti-oxidants that nourish, protect and give a healthy look to the skin."
     Cons:
    1. The packaging is good, it's actually comparable to any mascara. The circumference is that of a 10 centavo coin and the length of the tube is 5 in. Although I'm not raving for the quality of the design. It's not as "artistic" looking as drugstore products (that explains the price.)
    2. Has a little funny scent, but I think I'll get used to it (it's not a major con though)
    3. The consistency is a bit watery, you'd have to wipe off any excess from the wand before using it or you'll end up having too much on your lashes (read: clumps).
    Overall Rating: 4/5
I am yet to enjoy this mascara for a couple more months, and from then I'll decide whether I'll repurchase or not. SanSan is an affordable quality line, and the performance of their product is actually good. Althoug because of the affordability, some of the their product's features have to take the backseat (in this case, the watery consistency and smell of the mascara, as well as the design of the packaging). But still, would you actually choose a product with really good packaging and highly paid models but their products' performance suck? (I have a brand in mind, but I'm saving it for up coming reviews)
